Warriors Thrive Initiative

The Warriors Thrive Initiative is a year-round, community-based support and wellness program serving adults living with lupus in Portage, Cuyahoga, Lake, and Summit Counties in Ohio. The program operates through four quarterly wellness retreats, monthly peer support group meetings, and an annual Lupus Awareness Walk. Together these three components create a structured, ongoing support system that addresses what lupus warriors say they need most: community, accurate health information, and space to heal.

African American women are three times more likely to develop lupus than the general population, experience more severe symptoms, and face greater obstacles to consistent care. The Warriors Thrive Initiative was built specifically with this community in mind. Every aspect of program design reflects the cultural context, health disparities, and lived realities of the people LLA serves.

Know Lupus Community Education Initiative

The Know Lupus Community Education Initiative delivers structured lupus awareness education to professionals, community leaders, and general community members who interact regularly with lupus patients but have little to no formal knowledge of the disease. Through certification workshops, community seminars, and a train-the-trainer track, the program builds a broader ecosystem of informed allies who can support lupus warriors in their daily environments.

The program operates on the principle that lupus warriors should not have to be their own educators every time they interact with a teacher, an employer, a social worker, or a family member. When the people around them understand lupus, the burden of managing the disease in a social context decreases meaningfully.
